Probate
Probate is a legal process that may be required after a person dies. It involves an application to the Probate Office for a Grant of Representation, which allows the personal representative to gather in and distribute the deceased person's assets in accordance with the Will or the rules of intestacy if there is no Will.
How long a Grant of Representation takes to issue depends on the size and complexity of the estate. There can be a considerable amount of paperwork to complete before an application for Probate can be made.
Much of the work centres on identifying the deceased person's assets and liabilities and completing the required Revenue documentation.
